Portfolio
The following are artifacts of a project created to solve an existing problem at an after-school learning center. These artifacts depict the design journey behind the eLearning prototype that aims to inform, engage, and provide clarity to a diverse group of parents.
Parent Responsibility Job Aid
Artifact Details: The job aid aims to remind learning center parents of their responsibilities that must be completed before their students attend their next class. I chose a step-by-step design to display the procedural knowledge that parents are asked to recall. The four types of responsibilities were treated as steps and identified as student check-ins, Google Classroom, Materials/Tools checks, and Parent Portal. Each responsibility consists of actions to be completed sequentially. This artifact follows 5 of Mayer’s 12 Multimedia Principles of Multimedia Learning to prevent cognitive overload while maintaining a visually appealing design.

Guide to Checking Student Progress
Artifact Details: I crafted this microlearning artifact to help parents identify tasks that must be completed during their student's enrollment. This guide also provides resources that are associated with the learning objective, requiring parents to develop a personalized schedule for checking student assignments and progress. I used process and tab blocks to facilitate active learner interaction and screen captures to explain the bulk of the content that parents must know. The images are relevant to the content, and words were bolded or italicized to draw the user's attention, following Mayer’s 12 Multimedia Principles.

Parent Orientation Flowchart
Artifact Details: This flowchart represents the early brainstorming and planning phase for the eLearning prototype designed to orient learning center parents to the programs and responsibilities. The flowchart aims to visualize this project’s version of Gagne’s Nine Events in the form of a two-module learning experience. The key knowledge points I identified through a task analysis were organized into prospective content and interactive activity slides. The flowchart aims to provide a basic understanding of the learner controls that will be implemented in the eLearning prototype.

Scenario: Preparing Your Student for Class
Artifact Details: I created this scenario activity to assist parents in identifying the tasks required of students and parents during their student’s enrollment. The artifact presents two scenarios that represent two different situations that may occur, depending on the type of program. The choices are realistic options that parents may consider when preparing for class. The feedback explains why the choice is/is not relevant to the problem.

eLearning Prototype: Parent Orientation
Artifact Details: I designed this eLearning prototype to 1) help orient parents to the learning center’s programs and policies and 2) provide support for parents who are unfamiliar with the online tools used at the learning center. This prototype consists of two modules and a summative assessment. To ensure the learning experience is relevant according to Knowles’s adult learning theory, the scenarios provided realistic situations and reasonable responses. In taking an empathetic stance towards my learner audience, screencasts and an explainer video were created to provide a holistic multimedia learning experience.
